An assessment of ULAB sites is being conducted surrounding lead smelters in Zheijiang. Phase I and II of the project have been completed. Phase III is currently in progress.

In partnership with the University of Zhejiang, Blacksmith Institute has provided technical and logistical assistance to reducing lead emissions from the battery recycling and manufacturing industry in Zhejiang Province.  Specifically, Blacksmith provided its expertise in conducting assessments at lead battery manufacturing and recycling facilities in Changxing County, Zhejiang Province. This project involved conducting environmental and occupational assessments in conjunction with the University research team, local government and facility owners.  The assessment results will identify areas the facilities need to address to be compliant with occupational and environmental exposure laws. The success of this scheme will hopefully lead to replication in other affected areas.  Blacksmith will provide technical advisors from the US, UK and China to the project.
