The areas include Dhaka\, Barishal\, Chattogram\, Khulna\, Rajshahi\, Rangpur\, Mymensingh\, Sylhet\, Bandarban\, Narayanganj and many others. \nThese events will be conducted in partnership with local authorities\, including the Department of Environment (DoE)\, UN agencies\, NGOs\, youth groups\, local leaders\, religious leaders\, social workers\, the local media (press clubs)\, community representatives\, and other stakeholders. \nObjectives:  \n\nRaise awareness among communities and local authorities about the impact of lead and potential solutions. Recent headlines in the United States have brought attention to lead poisoning linked to contaminated products such as applesauce\, baby food\, metal cookware and spices. This webinar will present three groundbreaking peer-reviewed papers exploring different aspects of lead in consumer products and lead exposure. \nExperts will discuss a new study\, A Snapshot of Lead in Consumer Products Across Four U.S. Jurisdictions\, soon to be published in Environmental Health Perspectives\, which highlights the need for additional surveillance and international interventions. SUMMARY:World Environment Day Photography Competition: A Pollution-free Safe World for Children
DESCRIPTION:As we mark World Environment Day on June 5th\, with the support of the Department of Environment (DoE) under the Ministry of Environment\, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC); Pure Earth Bangladesh is going to organize a seminar in collaboration with youth groups — Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI) and Volunteers for Bangladesh – Dhaka District South\, a youth wing of the JAAGO Foundation — the seminar titled “Empowering Youth to Combat Lead Pollution.” This event aims to raise awareness and develop youth-led solutions to combat lead pollution in Bangladesh. \n\nAs part of the seminar\, a photography competition will be held under the theme “A Pollution-Free Safe World for Children.” Participants can submit their photos in either the mobile or digital photography category. The winners will be awarded a crest\, prize money – first prize: 10\,000 TK\, second prize: 5\,000 TK and Third Prize: 3\,000TK\, and a certificate by distinguished guests during the event on Sunday\, June 9\, 2024\, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the auditorium of the Department of Environment\, Agargaon\, Dhaka. DESCRIPTION:From the UNICEF-Pure Earth report “The Toxic Truth” we know that at least 800 million children globally have blood lead levels at or above 5 µg/dL\, nearly all of them in lower and middle income countries.  We know lead is bad for kids — but it is also bad for communities and economies. \n\nGrowing research indicates that lead poisoning has significant negative impacts on health\, child development and economic growth in lower and middle income countries\, with profound implications for international development programs globally.\n\n\n\n\n\nTwo distinguished experts will share their groundbreaking research on how lead poisoning affects people and economies: \n\nBjorn Larsen is an International Development and Environment Economist and World Bank Consultant. His research focuses on environmental health issues including air pollution and lead and arsenic exposure.\nAna Navas-Acien\, MD\, PhD is a Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Her research investigates the health effects of environmental exposures\, molecular pathways and gene-environment interactions\, and effective interventions for reducing involuntary exposures and their health effects. She trained in Medicine at the University of Granada\, Spain\, and completed her residency training in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Hospital La Paz\, Madrid and her PhD in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University\, Baltimore\, MD. She directs the Columbia University Northern Plains Superfund Research Program\, a center that integrates science\, technology\, and traditional knowledge to protect the Northern Plains water resources and Indigenous communities from hazardous metal exposures.
