Burkina Faso and Tanzania: Waste Lead Acid Batteries

The objective of the project is to enhance capacity of countries and stakeholders to prevent and address pollution in an integrated manner, with the environmentally sound management of waste lead acid battery recycling being one of the focus areas.

Pure Earth will:

• Develop a guidance manual for sustainable environmental sound management of used lead-acid batteries for Africa, consistent with the updated and revised Basel Convention Technical Guidelines
• Develop a national strategy for Burkina Faso and Tanzania to improve the management of waste lead-acid batteries and help reduce childhood lead poisoning.

The project is anticipated to be completed by June 2021.
