Indonesia: Empowering Women Gold Miners
Minerals and Energy for Development Alliance, Yayasan Tambuhak Sinta (YTS)
A new initiative, Women in Mining and Energy (WiME), was launched in Indonesia in January 2019, co-founded by Pure Earth along with a group of professionals linked through the Minerals and Energy for Development Alliance.
The goal of the initiative is to increase the participation of women in the sector, and ultimately to promote equal rights, opportunities and benefits for both men and women to help them pursue sustainable livelihoods in mining and energy.
More than 110 participants attended the launch event from various institutions, such as national governments, state-own enterprises, donors, mining and energy companies, foreign and local NGOs, media and academics.
