Strategic Policy Fund – India

The Strategic Policy Fund (SPF), established to allow Pure Earth and other lead-focused groups to quickly seize opportunities to help policy-makers use the best available data and expertise in crafting solutions to the neglected, enormous public health problem of lead pollution/poisoning. This fund supports activities that advance the passage and effective enforcement of laws and policies that prevent pollution.

Pure Earth India

India has the most lead poisoned children in the world, 275 million, which accounts for nearly 50% of all children.  The key sources include adulterated spices, contaminated cookware, and unsafe recycling of lead acid batteries.  Given the multitude of sources, the solutions require engaging stakeholders from diverse fields and agencies.

To that end, the Strategic Policy Fund is supporting the establishment and activation of a lead consortium of like-minded organizations / institutions and technical expert groups already working on environmental health issues. The consortium will bring focus and attention to India’s different governmental ministries / State Governments on the country’s lead poisoning crisis. The consortium will help bridge the existing silos of activities and data and improve the overall coordination and collaboration among different stakeholders of government, UN, industries and civil societies.
